The Lodge - Cuisine & Wine

Dinner

The dining experience at Greenhill Lodge commences with pre dinner drinks and canapes followed by a table d'hote meal of four courses. The cuisine style features local seasonal produce acquired from the markets or the gardens at Greenhill and then transformed by our chefs to complement the award winning Hawke's Bay wines.
 
We offer guests a choice of private dining, alfresco dining or the lodge option of joining other guests in the grand, majestic dining room.  Dining at Greenhill is exclusive to lodge guests so that you have the complete attention of our staff.
 
Canapes are served in the guests' sitting room or out on the terrace from 6.30pm and the dinner service usually commences at 7.30pm.  A light dinner option is also available.
 
We offer a regional selection of choice varietals and a library selection of rare and vintage wines to accompany dinner. 
 
Evening dining at Greenhill is optional and if guests prefer we can recommend a selection of fine vineyards and restaurants in the area.  We are happy to assist with bookings and to arrange transport (recommended).

 

Lunch

 
An informal lunch is available on request for guests who arrive early or choose to have a day of rest at the lodge.  We can offer a selection of home made pasta and quiches or perhaps a summer salad from the gardens of Greenhill.
 
Gourmet picnic lunches can also be arranged.
 
 

Breakfast

 
Breakfast is served in the breakfast room or, on sunny mornings, under an umbrella on the outdoor terrace.
 
We offer a choice of a cooked or continental style breakfast.  There will be a selection of cereals, seasonal fruit, juices, yoghurts, fresh home baking and preserves, freshly brewed coffee and tea for you to choose from.  You can then make a choice from our a la carte breakfast menu and the chance to experience delicious farm fresh eggs cooked to your liking.
 
The kitchen is staffed from 7.00am and you may choose your preferred time for breakfast.  Arrangements can be made for a breakfast tray for guests who may have an early check out.
 

Some additional notes on dining at Greenhill: 

  • Meals are served in the Main Lodge and it is possible to arrange private dining.
  • It is important that you notify us of any special dietary requirements that you might have.
  • Requests for special occasions and festivities can be catered for.
  • Children's meals can be arranged and will be served in our breakfast room.  We prefer that children dine separately from adult guests although family dining can be arranged.
  • Our dress code for dinner is smart casual, gentlemen are not required to wear a jacket.
  • We ask you to respect the non smoking policy within the Lodge and guest rooms.

 

About Our Chefs

 
This season we have two young and energetic chefs who are twin brothers.  They both started their culinary training in Northern Scotland at the Royal Highland Hotel.  Having completed their apprenticeship they worked throughout England at a variety of fine dining and award winning restaurants gathering experience.  Before emigrating to New Zealand their last port of call was The Old Government House Hotel in Guernsey which offered 2 AA Rosette and Michelin-starred cuisine.
 
Now resident In Hawke's Bay their first position was with award winning Sileni Estates Winery and Restaurant.  Both chefs now work full time at Greenhill and cover morning and evening shifts as well as culinary classes when required.
