Napier and Surrounds

Mission Estate Winery

Mission Estate Winery is New Zealand's oldest winemaker. In 1838 a group of French Missionaries arrived and established a Marist Mission in New Zealand. Besides being a teaching order, the Fathers followed the tradition of quality wine making. Grapes were planted to produce both sacramental and table wine. The first record of a commercial sale dates from 1870 when a parcel of mostly dry reds was sold.

Mission Estate is a unique historical venue incorporating New Zealand's oldest winery with a world-class restaurant. This beautiful restaurant offers both indoor and outdoor dining. Enjoy fabulous vineyard and city views while savouring some of the most exciting food and discerning service in New Zealand today.

Church Road Winery

Founded in 1897, the Church Road Winery was already more than 90 years old when it was purchased in 1988 and completely renovated, turning it into a modern boutique winery that applies hands-on winemaking techniques to the very best of the Hawke's Bay harvest.

The Church Road winery museum is the only wine museum in New Zealand. It is housed underground in old, disused wine vats whose adjoining walls have been opened up. The oldest winemaking relics in the country lie entombed in the museum, some dating back to the 3000-year-old Iron Age.

Esk Valley Estate

Located just north of Napier in Bay View, Esk Valley Estate is one of the region’s most respected wine producers. Known for the employment of traditional winemaking techniques, the team at Esk Valley create wines in a simple, honest and hands-on way.

You may have heard of or tasted Esk Valley’s celebrated premium red blend, The Terraces, which is only produced in the very best years.
