Alpha Domus was one of the first vineyard and winery combinations to become accredited members of Sustainable Wine Growing New Zealand, an environmentally conscious group dedicated to ensuring an industry standard for sustainable winegrowing.
The name Alpha Domus comes from the first names of the five founding members of the family: Anthonius, Leonarda, Paulus, Henrikus and Anthonius. Domus is Latin for house or home.
The biplane depicted on Alpha Domus’ logo was inspired by the many pioneer pilots who trained on de Havilland “Tiger Moth” biplanes at the historic Bridge Pa Airfield, located in the vicinity of Alpha Domus. The Tiger Moth has connotations of romance, history, lasting design, beauty and passion; all elements found in great wine. Today Tiger Moths and other colourful vintage aircraft are often seen cruising the skies above the vineyard.
At Alpha Domus you can enjoy an authentic cellar door experience in the heart of the winery, the atmosphere is relaxed and informal and the tastings are hosted by friendly knowledgeable staff.
The attractive winery in the midst of the Ham Family’s immaculately 20-hectare vineyard is a popular visit on wine trails.
There is always an interesting lineup of wines open for tasting and visitors can take time out to relax in the leafy shaded courtyard which looks out upon a beautiful vista of hills and vines.
