'Cycles & Vines' Wine Experience
A free-wheeling journey through Hawke's Bay Wine Country.
Using your own pedal power is a fun and eco-friendly way to explore a wine region. Within just a few minutes of Greenhill, you can be 'On Yer Bike' in the world-renowned Ngatarawa Triangle grape growing region and the Gimblett Gravels appellation.
Choose from mountain bikes, tandems and rickshaws and then select a route to match your level of fitness. The terrain is flat and scenic, with some cycling 'off-road' through vineyards and an olive grove.
Up to seven wineries can be visited on a self-guided tour using the map provided. All offer the opportunity to taste the wines and have outside seating where cyclists can stop for a while to catch their breath and enjoy the superb settings before moving on.
Wineries on the route include Ngatarawa Wines, Hatton Estate, Trinity Hill Wines, Sileni Estates and Alpha Domus.
The mobile phone supplied ensures that riders are always in range of back-up and support. This could be to arrange for collection of wine purchased en route, or to rescue a biker who may have "run out of puff".
